Since ChatGPT launched in December 2022, many lives and areas of life have changed dramatically. And we're at another one of those moments right now, a shift in thinking is about to happen.
Looking back, I started playing with ChatGPT in January 2023. I still remember the generic answers, the inaccuracies and mistakes, the effort of getting the right output with a good prompt. And when I compare that with today, and even more with the outlook for the coming years, we're talking about such an exponential scale that it barely feels graspable.
Over the past years I mostly used ChatGPT as a chat tool. I asked questions and got answers. As the model got better over time, when ChatGPT 4 came out and you could hand it more complex tasks, when it could reason better, remember things and do research, I used it to prepare for the world trip, on the road for travel planning, and partly for social media. But in the last few months a lot of that has changed.
A few months ago Instagram randomly recommended a video about Claude Code and Obsidian. I had no idea what either was. I didn't know Claude, and Obsidian sounded more like a Yu-Gi-Oh monster to me, but the video looked visually great. It showed how to build a second brain where you drop all your files in one place and let the AI link them together and access that knowledge.
And that's when it clicked. Everything I had built up over years in Notion pages and databases, manually maintained, I got in there within 24 hours, linked, indexed and turned into an AI that at that moment probably already knew more about me than I did about myself. But it didn't stop there. I started running analyses on my social media, my podcast, my stock portfolio. Started pulling it all into one dashboard. Started programming small games, building websites, an app for learning, so many new things.
I've always loved diving deep into a topic and getting properly obsessed. But the learning curve that opened up with these new AI possibilities was on another level. Nothing else had come close. And when I looked back at what I had built, the dashboard, the automations, ready-made workflows, custom commands and all the connections, built inside a single month, I asked myself: what would be possible in another four weeks? In six months? In three years?
A few months have passed since then. I've tested many different tools, integrated the best ones for me, picked what fits my setup. By now I've pulled all major areas of my life into one dashboard, analysed, connected, and made it look decent too. Automations help me wherever it makes sense and save me time that I can use somewhere more valuable.
I honestly can't imagine what this looks like in a year. Both in terms of how I'll use AI myself, and how deeply it will enter every area of life. And what kind of impact it will have on the job market, the economy and the whole world.
